Contractor of the Year award was given to the contractor who demonstrated a unique ability to win and complete projects on budget and within deadline during tough market conditions and for the ability to position themselves for growth through innovative solutions to challenges.

Tony Cantwell, CMG’s Managing Director commented ‘The future success and sustainability of the building and design sectors in Ireland requires changes, tough choices to be made and better ways to conduct and safeguard business. In business, we should always be aiming for the best, delivering the best, employing the best and I am delighted to see how the Irish Building & Design Awards have become associated with promoting the best in the industry. It’s an exciting time for professionals in the building & design sector and it was interesting to note at the awards just how many people were positive about the industry as we start to move forward.”

And last but certainly not least for a company founded in Galway over 100 years ago Stewart also won Retrofit Project of the Year for the new design and build post primary school in Claregalway.

This was an interesting project where the new 350 pupil post primary school in Claregalway was designed and constructed within an existing abandoned warehouse unit in an operational retail and business park and within a rapid build construction period of only 22 weeks.

The school’s principal, Mr. Alan Mongey, opened the new school for business for the first time on August 27th. The project has been a very welcome addition to the commercial park and the area and the maximum enrolment of 350 has already been attained in its first year in operation.
It has been a challenging few years for all industries and not least the construction sector.

Stewart accredit their significant success to a very talented and committed body of staff and are bucking the trend recording a steady increase in turnover and a welcome accompanying increase in personnel.
