The iconic Blackrock Diving Tower in Salthill, Galway was constructed by James Stewart & Co. and officially opened in 1954. This new tower replaced an old dilapidated diving tower.

How very fitting is it then, that Stewart Construction is a key sponsor again this year for the COPE Christmas Swim 2025. We are extremely proud of our long time association with this great charity, who do amazing work.

Since 1989, hundreds of Galwegians – and those home for the holidays – have braved the cold winter waters at Blackrock Pier in Salthill to support COPE Galway’s essential services.

The 2025 COPE Galway Christmas Swim celebrates 36 years of this enduring local tradition. You can take part on Christmas Day at Blackrock, Salthill (9 am – 1 pm) or anytime, anywhere throughout December.
